Violence at Howe Community Park Leaves Multiple Gunshot Victims in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood

Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are looking into a shooting that unfolded on April 18 2026 at Howe Community Park in the Arden-Arcade area at the time Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were breaking up a large unauthorized gathering of a crowd of Cottage Way shooting Sacramento several hundred.

What Led to the Shooting

Deputies initially got calls about the Arden-Arcade park shortly before 6:30 PM on April 18 after being notified of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. After that, a follow-up call was made about a reported physical confrontation unfolding within the park grounds.

Aerial units searched from above but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Despite this, it was apparent that several hundred individuals had assembled at the park without permission.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Officers started clearing the unauthorized gathering by setting up around the park's perimeter and announcing over their public address systems telling attendees to leave immediately. Approximately 15 minutes were spent for people to comply.

Just as the crowd began to move that between 20 and 25 rounds were discharged. The sudden gunfire sent the crowd running in all directions. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies quickly moved to finding those who had been shot.

Four Victims Hospitalized

Altogether, four people were confirmed as gunshot victims. The four individuals — comprising three men and one woman ranging in age through their in their early to late twenties — were airlifted or driven to local Sacramento hospitals. Emergency physicians indicated that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one had moderate injuries, and one victim's wounds were minor. As of last report, all four victims survived and were stable.

Metro Fire Sacramento also responded and assisted with medical triage those with gunshot wounds prior to hospital transport.

What Investigators Found

Most of the gunfire was believed to have occurred on Cottage Way adjacent to the Home Depot store at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. CSI personnel found more spent casings on Cottage Way. Projectile impacts were observed in the iron fence bordering the nearby Home Depot. This evidence showed that at least one shooter had been discharging rounds toward the south from Cottage Way aimed at the Home Depot. The store itself was locked down while law enforcement worked the area. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives remained on scene well into the night.

Suspects Detained

Information obtained through scanner monitoring confirmed that a Kia vehicle was intercepted in Solano County. Four occupants were taken into custody. Sheriff's units were sent to retrieve the detainees to return them to Sacramento for investigation. Surveillance footage confirmed that there were two gunmen.
